Colleen Rothschild Beauty: The Skincare Products We ALL Love

I might have to give up and completely switch over to all her products sooner rather than later. The mask itself is creamy coloured and very rich and thick. It has a sheen on it and looks like it could be too oily for your hair, it contains a blend of Shea, and Bacuri butters and Argan and Moringa oils. But there’s no greasy residue, it rinses out easily and you think perhaps it’s not doing much until you dry your hair which then looks and feels like a shiny salon blow-dry.

There are some products that you just can’t live without–these are mine. Retinoids encourage cell turnover to increase collagen production — to actually decrease wrinkles, plump your skin and fade dark spots. The eye serum is crazy moisturizing and helps to counteract the look of wrinkled and stressed eyes brought upon by age and environmental factors — um, yes, please. The oil refines skin tone and texture, fights age spots, and improves dullness. I am on my umpteenth bottle of both, and if I had to choose just two products to start with, these would be them. I know EVERYONE at TME has already been raving about the Radiant Cleansing Balm for years now, but I finally tried it and now completely understand the hype.

One of the products I rarely buy but absolutely need is eye serum. When I use it consistently, I absolutely see smoother skin around my eyes and I love that it’s thick enough it doesn’t slide around all over my face. In a normal year, I adore it for travel and just leave all the great items in my travel bag ready to go. Right now though, it’s perfect if you haven’t tried the products and want to sample a variety of them!

SMOOTH & SHINE HAIR SERUM – 30 ml (1 fl oz)

Shana and some members of the team have been hooked on Colleen Rothschild Beauty for quite some time and now…they’ve got me hooked, too. It’s good guys (and I’ve tried a bunch of fancy skincare!!). If I had to choose a current fav though, I’d say it’s the Complete Eye Cream. After long days staring at my computer, I was starting to notice some serious bags & dark circles — after a few solid weeks of use, I see an improvement.

It promotes new cell turnover to help minimize those annoying little lines and wrinkles. As for me, I have rosacea — cleansing my face is very important but I have to be very gentle. I LOVE smearing the cleansing balm on my face and letting it do its job, then gently wiping it; it always leaves my skin smooth and clean. Hair-wise, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but my hair is in the borderline of wavy and curly, and keeping it hydrated and restored from the heat styling is a must. I started using the Colleen Rothschild restorative mask recently and love it so far.

QUENCH & SHINE RESTORATIVE SHAMPOO – 100 ml (3.3 fl oz)

Argan and Moringa Oils smooth unruly split-ends and deliver a healthy-looking shine. Improved hair elasticity and strength help reduce frizz and texture, resulting in supremely soft, irresistibly touchable hair. This mask can be used daily as a conditioner or as an intensive weekly treatment. As for skincare, it makes the skin silky smooth, creates a subtle gloss and forms a protective barrier (aka occlusive).

Cleanse and Mend Conditioner

The oil coming from the seeds of the Moringa tree, a big white-flowered tree native to India. It's rich in nourishing and moisturizing fatty acid, oleic (75%) and also contains behenic acid (up to 8%) that makes moringa very stable and gives the oil a long shelf life. Thanks to all the above goodness in argan oil, it can greatly nourish and moisturize the skin and hair. It's also claimed to be able to neutralize collagen-damaging free radicals, help reduce scars, and revitalize and improve skin elasticity. You can even read that argan might help acne-prone skin, but being a high oleic oil, we would be careful with that. Unless you live under a rock you must have heard about shea butter.

Colleen Rothschild also created a body care line that consists of a creamy oil body wash, body scrub, and body butter. And, you guys, I can’t explain how good these products are. The Tahitian Monoi scent smells like a tropical vacation, and I just recently got to try the Honey Vanilla that smells amazing too — like warm vanilla and sandalwood.

As for the hair the hydration effect is also true there. Panthenol might make your hair softer, more elastic and helps to comb your hair more easily. It blends easily with essential oils and can also help to stabilize scents so it's a popular oil in the perfume industry. All in all, argan oil is a real goodie but we do not fully understand the special miracle status it enjoys.

So, argan oil comes from the kernel of the argan fruit that comes from the argan tree that grows only in Morocco. The tree is slow growing and getting the oil is a hard job. The traditional process is that the ripe argan fruits fall from the tree, then goats eat them up and poop out the seeds. The seeds are collected and smashed with a stone to get the kernels inside. This part is the hard one as the seeds have extremely hard shells.

If there’s one product I have to have at all times…it’s a really good facial cream. I have been using it for about two weeks now and I have to say, it is so lovely. It doesn’t feel oily (probably because it’s oil-free), manages to keep my skin feeling hydrated for the majority of the day (my dry-ish skin is usually ready for a second round of hydration by the afternoon). The other cool perk of this cream is that well, yes…it renews!

If you are looking for rich emollient benefits + more, shea is hard to beat. I had just had Greenlea, my first, and I was just so freaking tired — I didn’t want to go through a whole process, I just wanted to sleep. Also, if your skin is sensitive, fragrance is again not your best friend. It’s the number one cause of contact allergy to cosmetics. It’s definitely a smart thing to avoid with sensitive skin (and fragrance of any type - natural is just as allergic as synthetic, if not worse!).

Once the kernels are obtained, the oil is pressed out from them (the kernels contain about 50% oil). This reminds me of the best hair serum ever made, even better than the original John Frieda Frizz Ease (they relaunched it years ago and made a right cock-up, it’s all greasy now, I had to bin mine). I am, of course, talking about Kerastase serum in a small glass bottle, long discontinued, never beaten, and only remembered by me as no one else seems to have ever heard of it. Can be used as a daily conditioner, or as an intensive weekly treatment.

My number struggle when post-showering is detangling my hair. Thanks to my extensions I have a lot of it and if I don’t do a good job conditioning it can very easily turn into a tangled lion’s mane. It’s not a good look and an absolute nightmare to comb out. Because I don’t wash my hair everyday I’m very selective about the products I use in the shower. Basically if I’m going to put a mask or serum on my hair when it’s damp it HAS to be good because it’s going to be in my hair at least 3-4 days. I mean, it’s hard to narrow down what I love from Colleen Rothschild because — let’s be honest — I’m not getting any younger over here.

It's probably the most hyped up natural butter in skincare today. It comes from the seeds of African Shea or Karite Trees and used as a magic moisturizer and emollient. As for hair care, it is a non-volatile silicone meaning that it stays on the hair rather than evaporates from it and smoothes the hair like no other thing. Depending on your hair type, it can be a bit difficult to wash out and might cause some build-up (btw, this is not true to all silicones, only the non-volatile types).

Was the line (which seems quite expensive) an add-on to the hair products or did it come first? The thing is, I get that reference because there’s a brand of fly/wasp repellent (called RAID I think in a blue can) that does share a couple of notes of the fragrance. It’s not as crazy as you think, because I remember using the spray in the summer and thinking that’s a nice scent for such an unpleasant product. I’m super sensitive to fragrance, but even I think it’s absolutely fine, but be warned it is strong.
